The Pinewood Derby is one of the premiere events we put on as a Pack, with guest-Track Operator, Mr. Bill Schaefer!!  An Awesome former Scout leader with two sons of his own who proudly display Pack 3208 Arrow of Light Awards!

A few weeks prior to the race, we run a practice night where we have the official weigh-in scale and race track setup for your use. This will give you a good idea of where you are with your car, while giving you enough time before the actual race to make modifications.

We run the race on a Saturday morning and depending on the number of Scouts racing, will typically run about 4 hours long. This race takes the place of our usual March Pack Meeting. There will be a concession stand selling donuts, hot cocoa, coffee, and soda pop at the race.

The race is electronically timed and Scouts race against each other in groups of four.  Each car is run down each of the four lanes with the four times averaged to give an overall speed.  All Scouts are guaranteed to race at least four times.  The Scouts with the eight top speeds move onto the Grand Finals round.  Although we cannot guarantee an award for every Scout, we do try to give out as much hardware as possible: the Scouts with the top eight speeds in the Grand Finals round receive a 1st - 8th place trophy; trophies also go to the car with the most adult votes for Best Design, Best Paint Job, and Most Unique Design; and for Scouts whose car did not make it into the Grand Finals round, we award Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the top three speeds in each Den (or racing group).  Regardless if they win and medal or trophy, every Scout goes home with a racing pin or ribbon!
